The open Source drivers don't work perfectly for everything. For desktop use, I would certainly recommend the Open Source drivers over the proprietary ones. They actually run WebGL and JavaScript canvas functions faster. However, for gaming, the Open Source drivers currently lack full OpenGL 4.
