I might also add that I replaced my keyboard with a new one with no
improvement. A USB plug in keyboard is the only way I can use this
laptop computer.

I went through more nonsense trying to update the bios to version 3.60
but I finally succeeded and reinstalled Ubuntu 14.04. Updating bios 3.50
to 3.60 did not improve anything. I downloaded Ubuntu version 15.0?

I suspect that would not be as portable a solution to other platforms
for the affected apps like Chrome and Nautilus.

happened just now. I had Chrome, Terminal & Eclipse open on my Ubuntu
PC and was focused on using my laptop via Synergy. In my Synergy setup

I have a similar issue with my laptop with AMD graphics running ubuntu
gnome 15.04, which I originally reported as #1447356. I have kernels
3.19.0-15 and 3.19.0-22 and both of them give a black screen after the
grub screen.

Seriously? You would like me to back up all my data, wipe off my
install, re-encrypt all my disks, re-install ubuntu, re-parameterize all
the fonts/apps that took me a while to get working on a high DPI screen,
