I think you need Ted's Unity8 branch to trigger this; it doesn't occur
under mir_demo_server.

I don't know if this is relevant - I have a very similar configuration
to Paul (SZ77R5 with 32GB of RAM,i7-3770 instead of i7-3770K). His
problem seems uncannily similar to the problem I have been having except
that I am running Windows 8.1 (running VMs with VirtualBox). Attaching
my screenshot.

I have narrowed down the problem.
1. I have deleted light-locker, updated all the packages and run ubuntu-
tweak/janitor.
The screen now always unblanks.
2. The mouse pointer issue remains.
