This did help. It got rid of the error! No guarantees as of yet as to
whether my video games work or not, but doing the procedure as indicated
in the helpfile got rid of the OpenGL error message on the startup of
STEAM. It is gone now.

I have actually now a different 'fix', by simply never having the system
notice the hdmi-link goes down. I used this wiki-page to fix that for my

XServer crashes when visiting web page containing PDF
I am currently experiencing this issue with a foxconn d180s j1800
motherboard and Xubuntu 15.04. After turning off the TV and receiver I
do not receive any video when turning them back on. Running the script
fixhdmi.sh posted above or 'xrandr -d :0 --auto' seems to fix the issue.

Yeah, and that's precisely what's ridiculous: discouraging dual boot.
It's like not recommendiung the use of laptops, or that of an external
keyboard, or some given screen resolutions.
Ubuntu should struggle to better support all normal use scenarios,

As said is #104, I can now confirm after 2 days of usage that issues
(missing letters, etc.) have disappeared since I installed packages from
#100 (I simply done a dpkg -i as the same older package was previously
installed).

I do not know how to do it. I mean: when the computer freezes it is
impossible to file any bug report. And I think that filing a bug report
for a working (with the old kernel) system is useless...

I am also experiencing this kind of issue. For me, the problems manifest as
buggy display of video when VLC is in windowed mode. (Fullscreen mode is fine.)
Also, when I suspend my laptop, the display is partially corrupted when I
