That looks like video corruption, and it is possible that gnome-classic
has some of the animations disabled compared to gnome-shell, but I can't
think of any other difference.

I have been able to reproduce that a few times in a gnome-shell session
but it's not specific to any one task. It "crashed/froze" twice just
looking for logs and once again while launching Firefox. OTOH I can use
the classic session w/o a problem - in fact I'm streaming the nightly
news right now.
Lance, gnome-classic is gnome-shell with a bunch of extensions, so for
classic to work and Shell not does seem odd. Was the issue in gnome-
shell repeatable or a one of crash?

The external monitor connected to the dock doesn't get detected by
nouveau at all, so it doesn't occur in this form. This problem occurred
in Trusty as well. Before that I was using a different configuration,
so I don't know if it would have occurred. It looks like 331.113 is the
latest version
Perhaps oddly (perhaps not oddly at all) I decided to reboot and select
GNOME Classic rather than booting into the standard GNOME Shell and it
seems to work fine - no screen tearing or X-freezes under fairly heavy
use. So maybe nouveau itself is simply not capable of running GNOME
Shell.

GBM is giving us a stride of 256:
size_t buffer_stride = gbm_bo_get_stride(buffer); // in bytes
But actually it only renders correctly if we double this (real stride is
512?).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when
trying to install a particular package. Please execute the following
command, as it will clear your package cache, in a terminal:
sudo apt-get clean
Then try
After taking the screenshot, the Save dialog obstructed the corrupt part
of the window, and after the dialog disappeared the window was rendered
correctly again. Anything that causes a re-render (obstruct and re-raise
window, or select text) will restore proper rendering.

scrolling. The first four lines of the command_new function body are
missing completely (the second line of that block is empty anyway,

with the xfsettingsd crash, the approach is buggy. First I notice that
