Ok, so the same happens when running a glmark2 loop with a 3.13 kernel.
So not related to the problem I initially had. I would say that was
quicker to trigger and seems to be gone with the latest kernels in

Since installing the Ubuntu 14.10 beta update, I see Google Chrome crash
on startup.
This happens about 1/3 of the time.
The issue doesn't exist with same Chrome version, on same hardware, in
Fedora 20 -- and did not exist prior to updating to Ubuntu 14.10 beta
(i.e. 14.04).
I suddenly started to experience this bug when I updated my NVIDIA
drivers from NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.79 to >= 340. The only workaround
I've found is:
