These Xorg errors seem to be a side-effect of X hanging in
uninteruptible sleep, in the kernel: i.e. a nouveau kernel module issue.

Otherwise, the computer was hanging with the config file stored in the
/etc/X11/ directory or any subdirectory (xorg.conf.d) under it. I was
reading about the precedence that xwindows uses when looking for the
config files, does this have something to do also with the time the
config file is loade
Last night I was able to get the xserver to map the buttons for my mouse
the way that fixes the problem. What ended up needed to be done was the
config file for the mapping needed to be put int he
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d directory.

I re-installed the xserver-xorg-input-synaptics package and rebooted and
now everything is working, including middle click scroll. Thanks you,
