this might be possibly related to flash player being active in chrome.
it certainly seems to happen when I'm actively using chrome (from
google's repo) and often times seems to hang up the chrome process to
the extent that I need to force-quit it.

I found a workaround from

the X201 tablet, and it does not require rebooting, logging off and on
again, or switching between virtual consoles. Try entering
sudo inputattach --daemon -w8001 /dev/ttyS4
