I've found a workaround for this REALLY odd ubuntu issue.
Assuming you all have ELAN touchscreen devices, like mine, it represents
an usb device.
It seems that the ubuntu driver that controls the touchscreen has a bug,
altough it could work natively as another xinput device.

When Lubuntu updated to kernel 3.13.0-32-generic from 3.13.0-30-generic
the xorg.conf was renamed to xorg.conf.071714. After renaming file back
to xorg.conf and reverting back to 3.13.0-30-generic, no problems with
video resolution. Confirmed this behavior several times.

This is also broken in precise when using the trusty kernel necessitated
by HWE 12.04.5 support.

appears to be related to 14.04 and it happens other place

The Swiss keyboard layout in its French variant has the ae ligature
encoded with AltGr+a, and it should also have the oe ligature set to
