This report is related to a number of i915 GPU hang reports since kernel
3.8.x. The DRM in the official kernel hangs so often that it is
unusble.
The hang is easily reproduced by pushing the rendering system very hard.
E.g. I can always make the hang within a few minutes by
Adding "video=SVIDEO-1:d" to the kernel command line also fixed this
issue for me.

Okay, this bug should be closed. It's not even relevant anymore.
But the new control center is still missing the option to set the acceleration
properly. (There is none.)

will fix this.

ok, new update ... sorry my testing the other day was incorrect, I had
the FORCE_FULL_SYNC define set from a previous testing. Using git master
from intel I still see a frequent corruption on e.g the new tab screen

In 13.04 i install MATE, that is working fine, but Compiz dosn't. If i
login with "ubuntu" session, Compiz is fine!
In "dconf editor" hasn't "compiz-1" record, only "compiz".
If i get "compiz --replace" in terminal, go away the windows borders. I
open "Compiz config editor"
Looks like there is still a mux involved - a hardware switch between the
GPUs and the screen. That is preventing the igfx from detecting any
connectors, and from there it looks like things go south. (But as far as
I am aware, that should not actually prevent the driver from being
loaded - since the
No... The issue is that X considers the nvidia GPU still as the primary
and so loads VESA for it (which fails) and Intel as the secondary GPU
driver.
So the secret will be to set the mux to make Intel the primary/boot GPU
and connected to the displays.
