Same deal here. Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 64 bit. No power indicator on Toshiba
Z835 ultrabook.
For what it's worth, a friend of mine with a Lenovo (unsure of exact
model offhand) installed the exact same OS (Ubuntu GNOME 13.04) and
experienced the missing power indicator as well.

apparently it was somewhere in precise-updates because it worked until
just a couple of days ago (I guess this is when I logged out and logged
in for the first time after upgrade).

After a few hours of working with ubuntu there is showed continuously showing
there is a GPU hung. I couln't find this problem on the internet.

This bug has been fix for 2-3 weeks. The bug certainly wasn't in
synaptics since I also used mtrack for many months, and it affected the
keyboard too. The keyboard and trackpad only worked by switching to
console 6 then back to console 7 (which was not easy since the keyboard
was not reliably send

I believe the patch attached to comment #5 works around the problem,
however before uploading we should consider whether a better solution is

When in Unity mode, Compiz is usage never drops below 20 % and quite
often around 50 %. This disappears when I switch into Gnome Classic no
effects mode.
This machine is using two monitor dual head with NVidia.

X Error of failed request: BadAll
I upgraded to Linux 3.9.0-030900rc3-generic because the screen
corruption sometimes didn't want to disappear even after switching to
the console and back.
With this new kernel it seems it is working OK - no more screen
corruptions after a few hours.
