monitor is always blank (and turned off in power saving mode). The

A ray of hope for the alternative. After fixing a bug in the nvidiabl
kernel module[1] I can use the standard OS brightness controls to
control the backlight. More work needs to be done on that, and it needs
to be brought into Ubuntu, but it is the proper solution and it does
work for many devices.

Can also confirm that downgrading the package solves the issue.
Also found a way to reproduce the bug (on a Lenovo T420s):
1. Boot, set the cursor to an empty space on the desktop
2. Quickly toggle the touchpad enable/disable button (Fn+F8) while
simultaneously tapping the touchpad
3. The bug

it does not matter if I'm under unity or gnome3 and if I have assigned
some shortcuts or not...every time the same behavior. Currently there
are not buttons assinged except the "mode switch" and the "left ring
mode #1 - up and down".
It's best seen if you're drwawing something with your
launchpad refuses me to change the status of the bug..
anyway, I'll add the two commits to -intel and put it on a PPA for
testing.
