I pined down nvidia on the 96 driver. They have no desire to do
anything to update or maintain this driver, nor or they interested in
allowing any one else to fix it. Is it possible that the open source
driver could be made to work.I have tried the latest mageia release with
same kerrneol as 12.04

I am confirming this regression on my Ubuntu 12.04 AMD64 with MS
Wireless Laser Mouse 5000, evdev version 2.7.0-0ubuntu1.2. The left and
right mouse tilts cause up/down scroll, firing 4/5 according to xev
instead of 6/7. The mouse wheel tilt is therefore not usable anymore in
the newest Ubuntu LTS
The same bug and not only with launcher. Also with application switcher
and probably in some applications using 3D (probably, becouse this
applications ca contains a bugs producing blank app window)

I haven't used Unity for months because of that. My fix so far is using
Gnome Shell with a couple of useful extensions and a different theme. I
got used to it and haven't had any crash since. It's unfortunate because
I really liked Unity but now I'm a Gnome 3 convert... Haven't looked
