an upstart job and pm resume script to do just that on boot so that
brightness control is functional until intel_backlight can be sorted out
properly.

I've reproduced this using libreoffice. I wasn't able to repro the
issue in programs using just standard gtk menus.
I reproduced it with compiz turned off in plain gnome classic (i.e.
gnome-panel), so I'm doubting it's the window manager. The issue is
likely in whatever toolkit libreoffice uses.

to there being two /sys/class/backlight interfaces present (acpi_video0

@kernel team - upstream says framebuffer compression should be disabled
for sandybridge as an interim fix to this and other similar issues.
This was disabled in 3.3-rc4 due to BLT ring problems and performance

Garbage in the batch buffer, however I don't think it is the finish-gpu in this
case as the pattern looks different. Definitely a tiled render overwriting

I enabled rc6 again, ALPM too.
Everything runs fine (my battery is a bit more happy) so far.

lockup. IIRC, 0x018* errors are in 3D rendering code, which lines up
