It also happened to me a couple of times in the last few weeks. I also
had random hangs (without the above kernel panic message shown) that
could only be solved by hard resetting the machine. I'm on precise and
running the latest unity from the unity-team/staging PPA.

I had removed the nvidia drivers prior to upgrading from 11.10 to 12.04.
After upgrading I reinstalled nvidia-current and the crash did happen
