.. The desktop eventually just lags on it's own, it was the reboot that
made it faster. Although when I disabled Wobbly Windows, it ran fast
again.. Thinking possibly it's a bug in Wobbly Windows..?

The bug was a little to anoying to ignore, and I met some other issues
with natty (ie no stable VPN connection to a certain cisco based
network), that I gave up after a couple of months, and did the brave
thing to downgrade to 10.04 LTS. Its not the most straight-forward thing

I haven't seen this again since upgrading to 11.10. IMO, it's a tough
call as to whether it's worth backporting. It was obviously a severe
bug, but it was pretty rare, at least in my case.

I'm not sure I'm ready to upgrade to oneiric just to test this bug. A full
system upgrade seems somewhat risky and I'm still learning about the UI
changeover. As I understand it, Oneiric no longer has Gnome classic.
I have briefly tried the Oneiric Live CD. But, this problem is intermittent

1024x768 is a 4:3 resolution which does appear in the Displays dialogue
and works "as expected", i.e. there are large vertical black stripes on
both sides of the screen (since the screen itself is 16:9).

That's bizarre, I don't even think 1360x768 is a real resolution. That
is certainly still a bug.
Otherwise, Does the screen still blank out when you select 1024x768?
