But that's not the root cause... It is triggered because the hid-
magicmouse module reports the Magic Trackpad as having 2 buttons when it

I have an ubuntu 11.04 and upgraded the kernel to 3.0.
Result: blank screen.
Solution: start the kernel without X (in grub: 'set gfxpayload=text'),
and run ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-275.28.run
--kernel-source-path=/usr/src/linux-2.6.
This fixes the problem, and ubuntu 11.04 is running fine now w

Ok. When xrandr turns off the LVDS display, the *only* thing it does is
set the LVDS' CRTC to "off".
Tracing through gnome-desktop's RANDR code, on the other hand, we have:
0) Grab the server
1) First, set all CRTCs to off.
2) Now, foreach output, assign the first valid CRTC to it
