I booted using Natty live USB and it booted succesfully to Unity
interface with out proprietary drivers. It is quite possible that this
issue was caused by the previously installed ATI driver which is not
willing to leave the system.

Martin, this is a very rarely used driver and I would not expect it to
have that many users watching this bug.
The patch is obviously correct and has been adequately tested in other
releases. -evtouch is not critical infrastructure, but this is a
serious bug if and when it does come up.

One thing I just noticed is that, at least in the Virtual Box case, it
might be related to the amount of memory assigned to the virtual
machine. I had 1GB of memory previously where the problem occurred. I
just increased it to 1.5GB (for other reasons) and suddenly the theming
works and I also get
(For clarification I mean roll out to natty, since the natty task is
still only at Fix Committed.)
