Hi guys,
i have the same problem.I like very much this OS-Ubuntu, but why such a good
system do not resolve this problem such a long time?I see a posts from the last
2 or 3 yaers.It's strange for me.I don't want to experiment with my PC.I tried
but it's always a crash,black screen,red screen

In Maverick, Xorg was working (well enough), with compositing, with KMS off
(and only with KMS off).
Now, compositing doesn't work with KMS off.
If I turn KMS on, compositing does work, but the amount of cross-program

Also i think its trying to display gdm not freezing. You just cant ctrl
alt del out of it because it brought down your keyboard. Once gdm loads
the keyboard would normally be brought back up. You should notice, or at

VGA connection are you. Even if your are not check your bios and see if
dual display is enabled (Advanced Chipset in my bios).

it is incompatible with being able to dlopen libGL. However, changing

I had fixed this by downgrading to xserver-xorg-input-wacom to
1:0.10.5-0ubuntu4 (lucid), as that was the only alternative available to
me. Today, however, an update came out for wacom-dkms (perhaps
unrelated)? I'm back to this behavior.

Resetting the BIOS/CMOS (by selecting "Load Optimized Defaults") appears
to have fixed this issue. 5 hours so far with no hitches (freezes). I
can't imagine why any BIOS setting would cause this issue with Ubuntu
but I'm optimistic about the problem being fixed.

triggering the problem.
Uninstalling the package or disabling Bootsetup in /etc/console-cyrillic fixes
the problem, but leaves text console without Cyrillic support. The

I have a thinkPad X201 and Ultrabase x200 and a 24" LCD screen. The
thinkpad is docked and a display port to HDMI adapter is hooked up to
the cable that feeds the LCD. When I boot Natty (updated to today's
latest packages), I get

With no nVidia driver it works okay. I get a desktop, but no Compiz and
everything looks just a little bit rubbish
With nVidia I get the first application start to start then nothing.
I have tried creating a new user, but the same thing happens.

happened while browsing via Firefox (some flash content)
same thing happens when K3b finishes a job, and closing the current dialog box
totally scrambled display -- after Alt+F1 and Alt+F7 the display is back, but
freezes -- onl
Thanks cdr.
I updated my driver with this PPA, I removed my workaround, rotate the
screen with the catalyst control center, saved and reboot.
It's just work now.
