Yes I can confirm there is a regression issue with xserver 1.9 (at least
up to 1.9.0-0ubuntu4) and nvidia-current (at least up to 256.53).
This is most prominent when scrolling in some applications.
I have found that synaptic is a very good example of this one.

This problem has resurfaced in 10.04 Lucid. Until the 2.6.32-24 kernel
release I was unable to get resolutions greater than 1024x768. This
later kernel release solved that problem -- but now I still get sent
back to the lower resolution after a reboot.

Right. After the few months I've been chased by this bug, the KDE forums
were of great help to finding a solution;
Edit boot options and add "xforcevesa" to it. This will start Ubuntu in low
graphics mode, which is carried across to the installation. The new driver is a

System: I installed Ubuntu 10.04 Server edition, added "ubuntu-desktop"
package, and upgraded to Maverick 10.10.
Problem:
On bootup: GDM screen appears. Select name, hit enter. GDM restarts. Select
name a second time, enter password, logs in normally.
