Brian, I booted up the Inspiron 1100 and got the usual v10.04 black
screen.
I then did Ctrl-Alt-F1 and:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:brian-rogers/intel-shadow
I then created the /etc/X11/xorg.conf via nano with only:
Section "Device"
Identifier "GPU"
In Maverick it still doesn't work properly. System doesn't even detect
ot as Clickpad. I thought it would get better through the new Multitouch
architecture but it doesn't seem like that.

Having the same issue in Firefox and Thunderbird with ATI FGLRX driver 10.8 on
Kubuntu 10.04.1. It appears to be related to ATI drivers after I upgraded from
10.7 to 10.8 of the proprietary ATI driver, however the issue is not seen in
KDE, nor the Konqueror and Ephipany browsers. Just Firefox and
I've been able to reproduce the problem on a fresh lucid with xserver-
xorg-video-radeonhd which has been removed from maverick and is blocking
the upgrade.
Those who are hit by this bug, could you please try to remove that
driver and try performing the upgrade again.

HmmmI tried it again and it installed. I was having a lot of segfaults and
then update & synaptic stopped working.
I re-installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 and then restored my /home directory which is on
a separate partition.

I didn't change xorg.conf and I don't see IgnoreABI in my xorg.conf, so
it works.
