I also have this problem on HP Pavilion DV9912NR with Ubuntu 10.04 64bit.
After it happened and could hardly do anything, I disconnected the AC and
closed the lid to suspend/sleep, then when I woke it up the keyboard and mouse
clicks were working properly, although the touchpad was still disabled
I got a complete freeze with black screen again. Another problem is that
vlc shows only black screen when playing a video file. No matter what
output method i choose, it does not show video any more. This is a show
stopper for me.

Tested the kernel from #107 on my X201. Does not work!!! Same problem as
posted in #102. Blinking cursor but brightness keys are working...
Whats the problem with this *** bug???

Yes, the problem described above persists in lucid.
The laptop enters S3 suspend successfully, but after resuming to S1 the LCD is
flickering and the CPU fan will not start, thus the machine will overheat (note
that the fan issue is related to ACPI/DSDT configuration)

terminal and do "ubuntu-bug xserver-xorg-video-ati"? This will file a
new bug with the relevant hardware information attached.
