in xorg.conf (at least for me). Error #148428 which is marked as
duplicate to this has better description (assuming the problem is the
same). I would propose to make that error
Try removing "quiet splash" from the kernel line in grub.

Does the capslock light work? Can you REISUB?
Are you sure it's actually freezing and not just blacking out the
screen? If you play music or something, does it continue after the
screen shuts off? The two resolutions you mentioned are different ratios
than the 1900x1200, so that might be it.

Does disabling compiz fix the problem?

Sorry for delay.
Trying with compiz now, I have some white flickers when starts and then
it is ok. The performace is some better, but it also is slow.

There are at least three different kernel oopses, and most of them refer
to different processes.
Could you please keep track of the date/time of your next three crashes
and then upload the kern.log? This should give a definitive answer as to
which error messages are actually related to the crash.
It must have been around 14:00 (GMT+1) on the 27th. I'm not sure about
the time but the date is correct.

[i965gm] kernel backlight control method missing for macb
Had terrible trouble with my linux box at work today. After having used
a messed "10.04-from 9.10-upgraded" installation for some weeks, the
system failed completely (not even grub showing up...but that's another
story to tell).
I decided to reinstall LUCID from Live CD. Then the folowing bugs occ
I have a similar SiS video card and kernel 2.6.32-22 .
With Lucid I get my best performance by adding the following:
'video=sisfb:mode:1024x768x32,rate:70,mem:4096'
between 'ro' and 'quiet splash' in the grub menu entry.
Leave off the quote marks, be precise with punctuation.

I've checked the command from Chris on Ubuntu 10.04 and Acer Aspire 5100. After
wake up the computer is responsible (for example I can reboot it cleanly from
