I'm confirming this for Lucid. I just experienced a crash also on
10.04. It seems no one from the dev team would acknowledge this when it
was brought to attention as a problem with Karmic. Now, since we are on

As I said before, the fatal error doesn't show up in the log anymore.
There is no fatal error anymore.
I'm gonna attach the only error that show up in messages. And still,
that error only occurs when, after boot up, I login at the console, and
modprobe savagefb.
So there are 2 modules for savage,
I deactivated the desktop effects, and rebooted the computer. I tried twice and
had no applet issue. I reactivated the desktop effects and rebooted and the
applet panel now doesn't show the login applet but shows the "IM/Ubuntu" one
applet twice.
The bug seems to be indeed related to desktop eff

the backlight? You can do this by adding

In my hp laptop there is a small button that enables/disables touchpad. It was
working well until I upgraded to lucid. Now if I press that button i cannot
write anymore in any window.
To be able to write again I have to drop to a console with ctrl-
For me it worked after fully finishing upgrade to lucid (9.10 -> 10.04).
I had to manually run again aptitude dist-upgrade and aptitude -f
install and so on. Then after reset or two, all works on all 3
computers.

After fresh install from Luci
I am affected by the same bug, with white stripes on the upper half of
the screen on a black background flashing a few times, and then
darkness. It is happening to me about once a day.
The last few lines from /var/log/messages are:
May 24 08:47:45 sif kernel: [139051.464600] process `skype' is us
Haven't seen it in a while since my Lucid upgrade, I'm guessing this has
been fixed.

I think I have seen the same thing a few times on 965GM. Can you confirm
that this is indeed a render error, i.e. when you hover the mouse over
the icons, it shows tooltips from what should actually be there, not
what is shown on screen, and when you click, the action taken is not
necessarily from
