the X crashed after reboot. I usually update my system each 2 weeks or
less. To make that the X worked at least with the nouveau driver I had

It seems you could be right about nvidia I reckon it is the nouveau
driver. I decided to purge all nvidia drivers, blacklisted nouveau and
installed the latest nvidia driver from nvidia. So far no problem,
Xorg.0.log is good as is kernel log.
However system log is showing:
gdm-binary[899]: WAR
In addition to the MTRR range not set, there is no "OverlayMem"
specified by xorg.conf. This causes the multimedia player to close
unexpectedly when attempting to play a video file.
It also seems impossible to display a video larger than DVD resolution
regardless of the "OverlayMem" specified. The

the crash can be reproduced quite easily here. just fire up gwenview,
browse your photos and as soon as you hit a video it crashes. i guess
any other video application does the trick too.

It was a case of broken custom LiveCD install. Reinstalling the kernel
image fixed the problem.

@Aaron are you using the E6410? I tried for hours to get the Touchpad working
correctly, I tried Editing /etc/X11/xorg.config
changed from Mouse0 to Synaptics, added it to ServerLayout, Added 'Load
"synaptics"'
created HAL file: /etc/hal/fdi/policy/shmconfig.fdi
enabled shared memory in my fstab
The uint -> int patch works for me (Xinerama, 2x nvidia cards, 3 screens):
apt-get source xorg-server
cd xorg-server-1.7.6/

Same error hear the occurs during display of one of the screen saver, as I have
them set to RANDOM.

Dear all,
I would like to report that the screen resolution is not set up properly in
Kubuntu Lucid.
I have 2 setups : one laptop and one notebook with an external screen, all 3 of
different brands.
It used to be set up properly automatically after login by krandrtray in Jaunty.
krandrtray does
well, as I said, fglrx would not uninstall, but in the end, I re-
installed through synaptics, and for now it seems to work, I have access
to full screen programs again (including streaming video and openarena
game). I have not reinstalled CCC.

Having the same problem ...
The following happens:
1) Log in - compositing has been disabled (and cannot be re-enabled if I
remember correctly)
2) Then log out - display freezes (black screen/displaying terminal
content/...).
The system can still be rebooted using SysRq combinations/executi
Hardy had no problem with stepmania, Intrepid was fine too.
