It appears you have run into an intermittent freezing bug with the intel
graphics driver.
There is a wiki page with possible solutions you may want to try.

I've just put an older nVidia card, namely 5200, to check against a
hardware problem, and unfortunately there were similar symptoms, i.e.
hang on restore.
By the way, please let me know if the bunch of attachments above are
sufficient, as I can't see the stack/backtrace there.

I can confirm that indeed the problem still exists on lucid. If you
*really* want all of the apport-collect spam, I can generate it for you,
but I don't believe it's relevant for this bug.
