I can also confirm that the ppa kernel works for me in Lucid, while
without it I can't boot my old laptop.

Yes, after trying around I found out the same thing!
For example, when I click on the App Launcher in the taskbar, the mouse
will not actually work in the applauncher unless I right-click on the
symbol or anywhere in the taskbar again..

For what it's worth, even though the keyboard and mouse become
unresponsive, the system overall continues to plow on just fine. Ongoing
scripts running in my terminals keep going.

This is ok with me. I do keep an eye on this one, however, I don't have much
faith in the slogan "kms+rc410=love", in another other life maybe... Since the
upgrade to 10.04 I get a lot of bugs which as a good citizen I will have to

My eeePC 900 running Lucid does not suffer this problem - leading me to
believe it might be some how hardware (graphics) related - perhaps a
unique code path, or something failing, preventing the pointer being
'unhidden'. Thats just my programming intuitive guess however.

I just noticed this problem tonight. I'm not sure how long its been
going on for, I normally use a USB mouse. Using a HP dv5z-1000 with the
64 bit version of Lucid and all the latest updates. I just tried
switching terminals and switching back like Linuxslate suggested, and
its working at least fo

Well, the problem is not fixed on my machine.
Just upgraded to 10.4 and plugged in a beamer at the 2nd port on my notebook
(GeForce 9200M GS).
I haven't had tested the 2nd port ever before...

I believe I am running into this same problem. Sporadically the
computer stops responding for around 2-3 seconds. I am running 10.04
amd64 on a Macbook 4,1.
Currently subscribing via Launchpad is broken, I get an error, so I
cannot submit an apport report, but included are my Xorg and lspci logs
