I can confirm this still happening with karmic alpha 6. After the live cd boot,
it shows a brown-to-black fade (slowly) and then nothing else. I can't go to
other terminals.
And I do confirm that using the option i915.modeset=0 allows me to boot
perfecly.

If I try to move the mouse pointer from the bottom to the top of the screen

I can confirm I have the exact same bug (same steps to reproduce and
workaroud).
My configuration is the following :
- Karmic Alpha 4 with all available updated packages installed
- on Fujitsu Siemens Esprimo Mobile X9525 notebook, with nvidia graphics card

I have tried the September 24 snapshot per Robbie Williamson's request.

After installing the "recommended Hardware Drivers" on my system, X does
not start automatically any more.

I'v added the cairo dock package since , this happens only with cairo-
dock window list and when i switch with the workspace switcher either
cairo-dock's or the panel's workspace switcher , i dont get the crash.
Cairo-dock *might* need some tweak.

Hi , I was running the ppa from xorg edgers,
I have been having crashes when i switch workspaces using the cairo-dock and
compiz cube plugin[set to inside cube] ,this has been happening[i believe]
