Dell Inspiron 510m. The touchpad is not correctly identified - the
generic mouse driver is being used, so certain features (such as tap-to-

long term version 8.04. There are many schools and other LTSP users
working with hardy who affected by this bug. We cannot upgrade as LTSP

A few lines from strace may be of interest, though strace bombs out pretty
early.
It suggests okular is using the MIT-SHM extension for something, though if that
were the problem the memory would show up in ipcs and would show up as shared

I have the same problem too.
I have an Intel 945GM. The problem occurs for me while using both
Jaunty's and Karmic's kernel. Upgrading xorg-xserver-video-intel to
2.7.1 from ubuntu-x-swat doesn't solve the problem either. I use the
32-bit version of Ubuntu with the generic kernel.

I'm experiencing the same "cache grows" issue with driver 2.7.99 and
kernels 2.6.30, but a i915 card. So the problematic code must be common.
It took me some time to figure that was not a kernel issue, but a video
driver one. I can confirm caches take about half of my 500 MB of RAM,
arent' dropped

You might also want to look at Bug 373161, "Kubuntu: Random garbage
appears on old windows" (intel 965), which has been confirmed.

FIXED! :D I just ran more updates, rebooted, and it worked!FYI I think
it was xserver-xorg 1:7.4~5ubuntu20 and xserver-xorg-core
2:1.6.1.901-2ubuntu1 that were installed. All the best, thankyou!

and intel driver packages from Xorg Edgers ? Sounds really good !
What about crashes ? I mean, those who freeze the entire system ( not
possible to switch to console mode ), are they still present ?

upgrading the kernel seems to have fixed the problem. I played tested
Nexuiz for 5 minutes and no crash occured. Normally it would have frozen
in 15 seconds so i guess its working now. Thanks for your help!

well, I kind of solved the problem installing from scratch. But after
a bit of use, it seems still very slow, compared to intrepid. Maybe
you should reopen the bug, otherwise I will do it myself, but not
before a week.
