A friend has an XP system that no longer boots, and is quite excited at
the thought of installing Ubuntu.
Ubuntu running from CD-ROM can mount the XP hard drive, and so far as we
can tell most of the filesystem is OK.
In order to transfer Outlock Express data (both the emails and the

Sorry, may I just recap on this?
Web access has failed (i.e. your web browser cannot find anything), but
the Internet connection is still there.
So do email and ping work? Try something that is likely always to be
there, e.g. ping bbc.co.uk, and check that it resolves an IP address
(e.g. 212.
Does anyone here know how the JACK system works? There are some pretty
basic concepts that don't make any sense to me, and I can't persuade
their mailing lists to give me a functional login. I won't bore you all
with my questions unless there's a chance someone can answer them.

I know this is veering off-topic, but reading Rob's interview has
prompted it.
I've been asked to consider getting engaged in NetBuddies (
http://www.netbuddies.co.uk ). Do any of you know more about it than is
revealed on their website?
Andrew.
