Evolution "does exactly this"?..
You cannot get a reminder for a task since you cannot set an alarm for a
task in Evolution. Thus to get a reminder for a task you have to set it
as an appointment.
I use Evolution myself and know how annoying

There is the caldav and the related iCalendar format. The problem is the

mozilla sunbird and google calendar

I use Thunderbird, with Lightening attached and goosynch. It synchs all
my computers and it synchs to my phone, so I have everything on all
computers and phone that's both windows and Ubuntu.

I use Gmail with Gcal as it now has Google Docs enabled in which you can add
a document to an event and then send an email as well, in which you can then
add to Gtasks as well and works really quickly, the you can also send it to
your mobile at a set time, which is really useful!
Also you can work
I use gmail set up as an imap account along with thunderbird. I can access
via my home/work computers or via any convienient web browser. I've also got
an android phone with google which is configured to automatically sync my
email, contacts, calendar and todo lists.
