Is the = after the word quiet actually in the menu.lst?
(quiet=vga=791) This should be a space instead.

I edited the boot menu to add VGA=791 to the end of the kernel boot
section under Grub .

Following one of the recent updates, the splash screen and boot up
information between the the Grub display and the desktop, has
disappeared. The system boots up OK but the screen stays blank until the
desktop shows up.
How can I recover the startup screen.
Kubuntu 6.06.
I hope someone can offer
