I know we had this communication before privately, but it looks like your
ISP is Virgin insofar as that is the gateway for your wireless service.
According to the company's website (walesbroadband.com) it's WiMAX, which
is no bad thing as it does provide a decent service but with their

You're going to have to find out what kind of network you have and a
bit more info in general before anyone can advise.
It is Wifi, 3G, WiMAX or what? Study your bill and your contract, for starters.
I believe it is WiMAX
Secondly, do you have admin access to your router?
Yes.

If you are sharing a wifi link then it is the wifi base station that
would have to have the port opened to your machine.

Definitely not wifi.

Many thanks, Martin.
I regularly visit my local CeX although their stock list is hit and miss,

Doubled the memory in an old P4 system to a very healthy 2G for £6 :)
They may be worth trying for RAM if you have one local.

Hi Steve
That's pretty much what I've got at the moment: two slots filled with 256mb
each, so I'll be looking for pairs of RAM up to 1gig each.

I just took a quick look on Amazon and I've seen some 1GB RAM sticks for around

A little while ago, I bought a second hand PC as a general purpose family
machine. It came with a 2.4Ghz processor but only 512Mb RAM.

Hey Sean,
If they are uploading things, its likely they have a PHP Shell somewhere.
The most common is called the "C99 Shell". You could try doing a grep to
find it. I agree with Alan, it would be best to restore a backup.
It also looks like they are trying to start a SOCKS server, from the

Yes, Tony... I suspect that one or more of the installed scripts are the

Sean,
I'd have a look at the apache logs and see what URLs are being accessed
and go from there. Their location might give you a clue.
Do you have any PHP stuff on their such as PhpBB or similar?
