If you suspect it's overheating, you could install the computertemp
package and add the CPU temperature applet to your panel. Otherwise, the
only other thing I can think of worth checking is Palimpsest (aka Disk
Utility from System -> Administration).

For the past two days my pc has been mysteriously shutting down. Not
powering down!! Straight power off.
My thoughts are that this probably because of heating issues...but that's
just an uneducated guess. It might as well not be.
Are there any diagnostic tools I can run to find the culprit?
