Maybe nautilus has died? Or isn't connecting to the desktop properly - I've
had that happen, and nothing works on the desktop at all, not even right
click...try killing nautilus or something. Can't say the background has ever
vanished though :/

just got the above, come up, not sure what triggered it, but I can't

I was just getting used to Ubuntu working just about ok on my pc, when
we had an update for something yesterday, now I cant play them again. I
have tried FF, Chrome and Chromium and none will play videos. Can
