I would do "find / -name Desktop" rather than "./" which only searches
below the current directory.
As to re-creating it as a standard directory, don't see any reason why
you should not.

Have you searched for the Desktop directory to see it has moved? It can
be quite easy to accidentally

I was using Filezilla to download a small config file, which I was
going to edit and
