I have tried all sorts, including the suggestions in the parallel thread. I
have been able to save an xorg.config file with the correct settings and yet
Ubuntu still boots up in 800x600 resolution. Strangley enough, however, as it
is booting with the chocolate screen the resolution is correct.
Panic over issue is fixed. Thanks guys!

No have not tried that yet, will try in an hour when I finish work. Tried

Hi all,
I'm looking into starting a hackerspace in South East Wales
(Newport/Monmouthshire area) and thought I'd see if anyone here was in
the area and/or interested.
I realise that there are hackerspaces in Birmingham (1hr 1/2 away) and
Bristol (45 minutes and £££'s for the bridge away), h

Hi All :)
So the Manchester global jam is tentatively planned for the weekend of
26th - 28th March 2010 at Madlab Manchester, 36-40 Edge Street (Northern
Quarter) - see the wiki page for more info -
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UKTeam/ManchesterJam10-04
Madlib has plenty of space so don't hesitate to

Hello guys,
On my net book last week I connected a pair of vuzix glasses to see if view
worked out of box with ubuntu. They worked fine, however when I unplugged
them I lost my main screen so restarted the net book. And got a x error
saying no screen so I reconfigured my conf file, to no avail.
A couple of months ago I treated myself to an All-in-One PC with a large
touchscreen monitor. I couldn't use Ubuntu on it because it has a Realtek
wireless card which Ubuntu doesn't recognise and, as far as I can tell, nobody
has been able to get around this. Also, as the PC's OS is Windows 7,

+1, recently moved away from our MythTV setup (as we realised we never watch
live TV and iPlayer

Ahh, problem is, it won't fit on the 300GB drive. dd will copy
everything on the drive regardless of if there is data there or not.
You'd need a 400GB or larger har

I'd strongly recommend getting another drive of the same size or
larger and dd'ing the broken drive. Then you can work on a copy if
the drive without touching

Have a look at this: http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk
It's the TestDisk site. I'm unable to provide much more at the moment
as I'm at work using restricted internet access. The

I will try the live CD instruction as most of you have pointed me in that
direction.

You do not want to mount it!
The output of your fdisk -l command shows that there are no partitions
on /dev/sda so you can't mount it anyway.
I'm
It also might be worth checking out your local LUG - If you take your system
down to their next meeting their might well be someone who can help you

you might find IRC is a better way to discuss this and get it sorted out
more interactively than on a mailing list
on a different computer, or on a live CD on the dead

It won't be mounted correctly, since it's lost the details of the
partition table (i.e. the list of partitions on the drive).
Do what Matthew Daubney suggested
The only problem is i dont think the hard drive is mounted, even though
fdisk -l does show it as /dev/sda.!!

Thanks to all who replied for the all information and suggestions.
Plenty for me to think about there.
Cheers,
