Architecture is very different on the Linutop.
Viglen runs Xubuntu and has a 60GB hard drive... Linutop has a core embedded
Linux containing the basic applications with the option to run more on a
memory stick (I believe) and no hard drive.

Anyone have experience with the Linutop device (
http://www.linutop.com/linutop2/index.en.html )? I am thinking of
getting one for a low-power machine. Right now I need something simple
that will allow me to set up a webcam with motion detection, and I am
thinking of this :)

Hi,
Perhaps I was a bit harsh the machines have their uses although they were no
good for us. The main problems we found were that they're very underpowered
and slow and the graphics weren't that great. Having said that if you don't
mind a slow boot and just use it for the web etc. they're OK plus

I know that writers can be picky... I used to have a CD-RW that wouldn't
burn anything other than Kodaks... could, of course, just be a defective
disc.

I'd definitely try a few different ones, though, before spending significant
amounts of time on looking into the Ubuntu setup.
Are you dual-booting? If so, why not try it in Windows too, and see what
that does? If the problem persists it isn't the drivers.
Just a thought.

I wouild be inclined to examine the media, rather than the drive.
If it is burning CD-Rs and DVD+Rs then I don't see any reason why it
shouldn't also manage DVD+RWs... I assume that the disk has not been
finalised or something like that, in which case you need to erase it before
you start.
