Hi all,
I've only ever installed Ubuntu as the only O/S on PCs before, but I do
need the laptop to be able to run Windows Media Centre from time to
time, so dual-boot is the way to go.
I have an 80Gb HDD, with 40+Gb free at the moment... so in principle
could re-partition down, to give, say, 2
Yeah, I had a look at Gnash and installed through Synaptic but as Terence
says this only plays Flash and since Adobe already provide a Flash player
plug in for Linux I guess it's only use would be in playing stand alone
Flash files.
If you load a web page with a Flash component it plays just fine
You'll probably get some assistance over at the Overclockers forums - lots
of mad buggers over there prepared to put water next to delicate

Oops! The Xorg.0.log was from a (successful) safe mode boot...
Do this: boot into the normal mode. When you see the blue screen, restart as
you normally do. Then enter safe mode, and this time look in
/var/log/Xorg.0.log.old
The .old one will be the broken X log.
Thanks!

It should be working then! No major errors showing, so I cannot see any reason
for it to not work.
If a live cd works on your system, then there

I was wondering if someone could watercool my media centre for me..hopefully

Strange, that's how I upgraded from feisty to gutsy months ago, but it
is possible that it's broken at the moment (it being unreleased, all
bets are off until release day).

I've never had any luck with this command. What I did this last time was
manually change the distribution in /etc/apt/sources.list and then run 'sudo
apt-get update' and then 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' (I replaced all the
references to 'feisty' to read 'gutsy' in my sources list. Note, however

Anyone tried LinuxMCE?
As it seems this will be tied in to KDE it might be worth a go
It's allegedly also an easier way to install Mythtv.
I don't like the look of the 'easy install' or whatever they call it it
looks like it wipes your drive ???
It would be nice if you could just dl it via apt-wha
