source if your running amd 64 bit Ubuntu.

you seem to have a lot of qemu images, first you create 1, then copy
it and make read only.

I think it's a great idea - don't be put off by a lukewarm reception
in some parts, it's often a sign you're doing something new.
A nice idea, I think sessions like that is a great way for people to try out and learn about FLOSS, I would pop alone (Im down in cornwall) but Newton Abbot is a bit too north for me :-P
