Hi,
when Will Godfrey posts the final analysis of his poll, I will ask those
who don't use Jack or ALSA for audio production, for the reasons that
they don't use Jack or ALSA. I dislike the idea of making two sound
servers Pulse->Jack the default of a distro for artists and I fear that
a few users

We are releasing today btw, so this will be the last chance to do any

Hi,
I use the Pulse->Jack audio path because it allows me to edit music and at
the same time listen to (and eventually use, shhh...) pre-recorded music
available by commercial mediums (AKA spotify, youtube, vimeo, etc).
Mi notebook has PulseAudio available by default but, via a little script,

Is such a script IMO should be available by a default Ubuntu Studio.

I will happily share it as soon as I grab that notebook. Definitely I will
send it in less than 24 hours.

Sorry for the spam. Just found it in an old repo in GitHub:
https://github.com/kmixflow/ffado-misc/blob/master/pulse-jack-post-start.sh
Run the script after you have JACK started. I added it on qjackctl as a
post-start script.
Hope you find it useful.
Regards!

Apples aren't oranges ;). I get your point, but I
All testing done pretty much. I've marked both ISOs ready. So, expect a
release announcement sometime today/tomorrow.

Has anybody on this list disabled dbus, while using a DE or WM and
several GUI apps that expect dbus running? Mike's mail makes me thinking
again about dbus. I can't interrupt my current office session, but I
guess I will test it. I suspect that disabling dbus would cause serious
issues.

LOTS of things use dbus to talk to each other, for instance Compiz and
Cairo-dock can use it to interact with each other. Before disabling
it you would need to ensure your entire DE is not using dbus,
something like IceWM invoked directly from Startx (running X as an
ordinary user) should work wel
I just tested stopping dbus (via systemd), this kills lightdm as well.
To run without dbus you would need a session manager that does not
require it to be running in order to run itself. On my system lightdm
did restart, but with networking disabled.

I made the transition myself, since I needed to port my boot time
multi encrypted disk
unlocker over to it, given that Ubuntu will use it in the future. I
tend to make that sort
of transition well in advance if it involves porting my own software.
I DO see forks of systemd developing, however, if

As discussed earlier on this mail list, we've decided to focus more on
supporting the LTS(Long Term Support) release, and also recommend our
users to install the LTS release rather than the latest release. But, we
continue to publish ISOs every six months as usual. And here is the
latest one.

That's a wise decision for a release model approach. The real rolling
release approach comes with advantages an drawbacks. For the release
model a big "+" for preferring The LTS model.

My current OS evolved from UbuntuStudio Jaunty but has diverged quite
