I've got a guest (xml attached) with no discs that I'm trying to
netboot, but as soon as iPXE starts I see:

1) It doesn't seem to happen with files
2) With lvm, It doesn't always happen if the guest is configured with a

Interesting; no I don't get that menu - it doesn't get that far for me.
Both of the machines I tried it on are Quantal installs; both using
virt-manager to set the vm up; I'll try your command line set to see if
it makes any difference.

stop libvirt-bin

I think the smoking gun here is the kernel version; that's the drbd8-source
package from lucid, but lucid is 2.6.32-23;
the reporter has a much newer (2.6.36-020634) kernel, and not too
unsurprisingly the old patch doesn't work against it.

I can see that it would make sense to allow /usr/lib and /usr/share to
be read.
The wider question is how to give sane errors; the error didn't say anything

desktop (and push apt through it so that all my machines only download

The backing disk is a raw lvm2 logical v
Have you got a pointer to something on how to ask it to do qcow2? I've
been using the libvirt manager and I have a choice of raw devices or
file backed.

That seems to work - thanks Bernhard, Dustin ; just done a lucid3 install in
it (64bit) - worked fine!
(Note I realised the test I did today has my host is currently running
2.6.33-999-generic #201002211003 from the daily kernel ppa rather than
the standard one, I'll try and remember
Just tested with the 0.12.3-0ubuntu15 on the 2.6.32-16-generic
#25-Ubuntu host kernel. All looks good.
