With 0.7.5-3ubuntu63 I can no longer reproduce the bad behavior and an
strace of an affected binary shows correct paths being used.
This looks fixed to me.

Indeed a prerm existed for dhcp3-server in lucid, and not in precise.
The prerm is likely failing because dhcp3-server is not running.
Can you check whether it is running (sudo service dhcp3-server status)

Hello,
1. The bug occurred during an upgrade from Lucid to Precise. I regret I
did not pay full attention during the upgrade as I was busy with other
issues (my fault). Note I upgraded a EEE laptop and my main laptop.
2. Checking the dhcp3-server status responds with "unrecognised service".

My appologies ..
Found a typo in the /etc/default/tftpd-hpa file.
The "RUN_DAEMON=" was entered as "RUN-DAEMON="
Note the dash ... it should have been entered as an underscore.
Work as designed now.
The obvious mistakes are the hardest to catch sometimes ...
Thanks for getting my brain back on t
Those questions do not belong to the maas package. Those questions are
part of dbconfig-commong and I have tried to get rid of those from the
past release and I have been unsuccessful. In someone has better
knowledge of dbconfig-common for that matter, please feel free to
suggest a solution.

Agreed, and possibly a bug in dnsmasq? Which is not really going to get

To clarify - maas on its own cannot write the dhcpd.conf because it
