I ran into this same problem (Ubuntu 10.04). As the successful use of
the --hostname option already suggests, this has to do with the hostname
given to the VM. This hostname is also used in the xml files that are
placed in the /etc/libvirt/qemu directory as noted in comments

Can it be that with this packages, the initscripts on the CC and CLC
have changed from
eucalyptus-cloud (CLC)
eucalyptus-CC (CC)
to only "eucalyptus"? Because i installed the CC based on these packages
and and "restart eucalyptus-cc" did nothing, whereas a "restart
eucalyptus CLEAN=1" worked

@Etienne, Thanks for reporting this bug. A fix for this seems to be
suitable for the SRU process, but personally i feel it should be bundled
with another SRU as in itself; it's not serious enough to warrant an
SRU.
Would you mind providing a suitable concise line that it should be
replaced with?
I checked it today and it is still there for me :-(
I checked the code and found that php5-curl in ext/curl/interface.c line
819 calls curl_global_init(CURL_GLOBAL_SSL). If I changed it to
CURL_GLOBAL_NOTHING the apache didn't crash. So I followed this code
through the libcurl to the openssl libra
Dave: I would love to, except I am not too sure what the expected
behavior is. It would be best if someone who actually knows what's
going on write the text in question.

I think the smoking gun here is the kernel version; that's the drbd8-source
package from lucid, but lucid is 2.6.32-23;
the reporter has a much newer (2.6.36-020634) kernel, and not too
unsurprisingly the old patch doesn't work against it.

If you're at Lucid or Maverick, you can also create the rootfs img by
running the attached rootstock script.
Please install all rootstock dependencies by installing the official version
provided by the distro:
sudo apt-get install rootstock
Using the attached script:
sudo bash ./rootstock --fqdn
For the seg fault bug I've created the bug 604872.
Meanwhile I'll try to reproduce the hang problem with Maverick and
upstream Qemu.
