I think my previous two comments really have nothing to do with the
actual problem. Me just grasping at straws trying to find some kind of

That's unfortunate, I didn't realize libpam-ldapd was so incomplete. You
can still use nssov for full pam support.
Your best option for an immediate fix is still the libgcrypt patch I
posted. Without that basically all Karmic and Lucid nss-ldap+SSL

file created in a folder called ubuntu-kvm (i.e. a default, as you suspected),

I ran into a problem of using ssh on a none standard port (with simular

FWIW, pool.ntp.org does geolocation nowadays, so it's not necessary to
use the regional zones. Which is good, cuz it would be pretty
complicated: Some don't have enough servers, or even have none at all,
so you need to fall back to nearby countries or the continental zone.

Windows XP does not allow changing from non-acpi to acpi hal:

Device Manager -> Computer -> MPS Multiprocessor
and update the driver to Standard PC.
This will give 1 idle processor
