Hi,
After a bit of debugging, some pushing and a big wait, there is a
proposed patch for this. Really this is a bug in PostgreSQL as listed
in the PHP bug report.
I'm not sure if this should be moved. So I'm leaving it here. But it
is certainly a bug in PostgreSQL.

What other libraries does php have loaded for this crash, and what order

I have just installed 8.10 and have suffered exactly the same problem.
Due to my attempt at upgrading an existing system having failed
spectacularly, this was a completely clean install, so the faulty init.d
file has to have come from the package.
The install also failed to create the /var/spool/
This bug was connected to the Moodle package which I don't use anymore.
Whatever was happening with postgreSQL was being done by Moodle. Sorry I
don't know the specific answers to your questions.

After lots of headaches I've just rebooted and ran the 2.6.24-21.43 kernel and
my work smb shares worked just fine...

comes up and the hwclock is re-sync'd even if the panic-threshold would
