Steps i do to try to reproduce it:
1. install php5 (it installs apache2 as dependency)
2. place a file in /var/www as the follow:
[buster:/var/www] nxvl$ cat index.php
3. Open a browser and point it to http://127.0.0.1/index.php

I too can confirm exactly the same issue - I am able to copy a file but
not a directory from network mounted share. I get a "permission denied"
error message. In addition I have exactly the same problem with ftp.
Interestingly, as stated by Gerard and miraceti, browsing to the
"~/.gvfs" folder allo
Should probably add that there was no issue before upgrading to Hardy
(from Gutsy). Have also tried a clean install and same problem persists.

This might be a problem but I don't see how it proposes to fix bug
#90681 unless we can modify every application, including 3rd party VPN
tools, that want to change /etc/resolv.conf to use NetworkManager to do
it instead of modifying the file directly.
Here's a hint, though: we can't do that :-).
I hit this too; my company uses Juniper's NetworkConnect and it adds its
own DNS servers as the first ones to search to /etc/resolv.conf. I
disabled the download of the DNS server info altogether which is
obviously not optimal, but works OK for me because I've installed a
Linux image on my Linksys

I guess I misunderstood your comment.
IMO, bug #90681 has no relationship to NetworkManager at all. It could
be that the system in 90681 has disabled NetworkManager altogether and
is using raw dhclient; that bug would still happen. The problem that
the dhclient-script overwrites /etc/resolv.conf
This bug was fixed in the package openldap2.3 - 2.4.10-1ubuntu1

This is affecting several of our 64-bit Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) servers.
The memory usage climbs faster the more oid's are pulled. Looping
snmpwalk from my desktop causes the process to grow 128kbytes every
iteration.
