II don't know if this bug affect only ubuntu. I can only affirm that this bug
doesn't affect debian testing (samba 3.5.6).
Please can you tell me how can I help you to to know if it's really an upstream
limitation?

Is this a bug only ubuntu? or with the upstream package also?
I suspect its a upstream limitation at the moment, though I admit to not being
familiar with winbind.
