The basic testing I have done with ceph on XFS and ext4 would confirm
RoyK's opinion on use of XFS - it appeared to be alot slower that ext4.

Given that we have ceph 0.48 in Quantal, which uses leveldb for the
xattrs, perhaps ext4 is in fact going to be the preferred FS going
forward. Either way, this seems like a Medium priority.

I think the default would still be ext4 (as this does not required a
separate device/filesystem).

Why XFS? It's dead slow on metadata operations, and AFAIK ext4 beats it
on most points, performance *and* reliability-wise
