n still hangs with 'mount: / is busy'
I even updated the BIOS from 2.0.4 to 2.06, no luck.
When booting from a Knoppix 6.0.1 CD with a 2.6 kernel, shutdown works
and halts the system to poweroff state.
Any ideas?

I got similar problems (shutdown hanging, mount:/ is busy) with Ubuntu 14.04 on
a Dell Precision WorkStation 390,
after boot ing dmesg displayed a kernel 'Oops: [#1] SMP', a few lines
below the 'i82975x_edac' is listed:
[7.951808] Oops: [#1] SMP
[7.951943] Modules linked in: i
ow what consequences I will encounter by not having loaded the
i82975x_edac module.
As far as I can say, Trusty Tahr and I are quite happy without it.
